Tarot as a mirror, not a master

Let's get one thing straight from the start: tarot isn't here to make decisions for you.

It's not here to tell you whether he'll text back, whether you'll get the job, or whether you should move house. Well, people do ask it those things, and that's up to them. But in this course, we're using tarot for something much more powerful.

We're using it as a mirror.

What tarot does well

Tarot is a deck of images and symbols that have been layered with meaning over a very long time. When you look at a card, those images can stir something in you. A memory, a feeling, a realisation, a question.

In that sense, tarot gives your intuition something to respond to. It's like a conversation starter between you and yourself.

When you pull a card and something in you goes "oh", that "oh" is the bit we care about. Not the guidebook. The "oh."

Traditional meanings versus personal interpretation

There are traditional meanings for every card. They're useful. They give you a shared language and a foundation. I'd never tell you to throw them away.

But if you only ever read the book, you're not really reading the cards: you're reading someone else's interpretation.

The magic tends to happen when you hold both. What does this card traditionally mean? And what is it saying to me, right now, in this situation?

Not becoming dependent

I want to be honest about something. It's very easy to get into the habit of pulling cards for everything. What shall I wear? Should I text her? Is today going to be okay?

Some daily card pulling is lovely. But if you notice you can't make a decision without the cards, or you keep pulling until you get an answer you like, it's worth stepping back.

The goal is that tarot helps you hear yourself more clearly, not that you need it to hear yourself at all.

One Card Intuition Check-In

A quick daily way to check in with yourself, using one card as a mirror for what's going on inside.

How to approach it

Take a breath before you draw. Ask: 'What do I need to notice today?' Not 'what will happen', but what do I need to notice.

Before you interpret

  • What did your eyes land on first?
  • What's your body doing as you look at it?
  • Does it make you feel open, closed, curious or flat?

Using your own deck? Lay it out and use the notes below.

1. Today's mirror

What is this card reflecting back to me about where I am right now?

What do you notice?

First impressions, colours, body response, then meaning.

Saves automatically as you write

Reflection

  • How does this connect to what you're already feeling today?
  • If you didn't know any traditional meaning, what would this card be saying?
Reflection Companion

Write, then go a little deeper

Write honestly about what's on your mind. You'll get a few personal reflection questions, shaped by the course, to help you notice what's underneath. They're prompts, not answers.
